As the month of May comes to an end, many of us students are making our way through exam season. We recognise that this can be a challenging time, especially for your mental health. It’s the final push at the end of the academic year, you want to perform your best and finish the year on a positive note. This can raise feelings of stress and anxiety. As students, knowing how to manage these feelings is crucial. We want to give you some tips that will help and make this journey easier.
Prioritise self-care - Keeping your regular self-care habits even when you get busy with studying makes all the difference. Dedicate some time to unwind and relax. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating balanced meals and engaging in activities and spending time with loved ones.
Stay active - Physical activity plays a crucial role in maintaining mental well-being. Engaging in regular exercise and keeping our bodies moving can help reduce stress levels and also gives you time away from your desk. The Endorphins released during physical exercise act as natural painkillers and mood enhancers, creating feelings of happiness and reducing anxiety.
Organise your studying -As students, we tend to think that once exams are near, we must cram and be studying all the time. Change your outlook on exams. This is an opportunity for you to showcase all that you have learned over the year. So as your exams approach, having a solid plan and doing an adequate amount of consistent revision will help you regulate stress and succeed in the long run.
Take regular breaks - in order to maintain your productivity, taking regular breaks is important. Using apps like flora, to engage in short, undisrupted bursts of studying and scheduling breaks is a good way to do this. This will improve your concentration and refresh your mind.
Practice stress management techniques - Whether that be deep breathing exercises, mindful meditations, praying if you are religious or listening to calming music. There are all ways in which you can reduce anxiety and maintain peace during the busy month.
We hope exam season goes really well for you all! Believe in yourself and your abilities. There is a reason you have made it this far already.
