The summer is finally here, and Empowered By Vee is here to guide you on the best ways to maximise your summer. Whether you are entering your University journey or about to begin your professional career, follow these tips to have an exciting summer!
Explore your city
If you haven’t had the time during the busy semester, go out and explore the city that surrounds you. Visit the local library, museums, and events it has to offer. Discover the best places to dine and shop your academic bubble. Exploring your city is a great way to learn more about the area you are living in and meet new people. It also gives you a chance to try new things, see new sights, and experience the culture of the city. It's a great way to make the most of your summer and get a break from school or work stress.
Catch up on Summer Reading
Reading is a wonderful way to relax and disconnect from the worries of the day. It can also be a way to expand your knowledge and learn new things. For those of you that love reading books, the summer is a great time to catch up with your favourite authors or read some new books. Whether you like the classics or the New York Time Bestsellers, find your favourite and start reading!
Never stop Learning
A splendid way to continue learning is to take summer classes. This can be a way to explore other classes you might not otherwise take, fulfil university requirements, and get ahead on topics. There are also general classes ranging from a variety of activities of art and cooking to creative writing and theatre, find what works for you.
Apply to internships
Internships are one of the best ways to gain real-world experience and make valuable connections in your field before graduating. You can learn new skills, expand your network, and even get paid for your work. Plus, they look great on CVs and can give you an edge when applying for jobs.
Start your own endeavour
If you are not hearing back from internships or none of the positions already available are of any interest to you, you can always start something of your own. Start writing that book. Make your own science project. Reach out to professors to create that research proposal. Don’t let rejection discourage you from pursuing your interests.
Volunteer at a non-profit organization
Volunteering is also an ample way to gain experience. If not do what you love, to find out what you don’t. Whether volunteering at an animal shelter or food bank, any kind of volunteering can allow you to have new experiences and meet new people.
Learn a new language
Languages offer us insight into new worlds, cultures, and people. We can learn customs, eat certain foods, and even pick up ways of doing things, but language is the bridge that connects us to one another. Learning a new language is a great way to spend your summer, to become fluent in a language other than your own takes patience and dedication, yet the reward is worth it.
Explore your interests
Summer is the best time to focus on yourself and learn more about what you want your future to look like. Trying new things can lead to discovering new interests, so break out of your shell and try something new.
Interact with nature
Our schedules can begin to become crowded throughout the year with classes, studying, extra-curricular activities, and spending time with friends and family. Sometimes, we don’t make time to get outside and interact with nature. This summer, make sure you make time to spend sitting among the trees and plants. Just sit outside and look at the clouds, breathe in the fresh air, and watch the butterflies. If you can, go with friends or family to visit a national park.
Have Fun
Internships and volunteering are important, but they aren’t everything. The summer is supposed to be a break from school and hectic schedules, so if you don’t have internships, take the summer off. If you do, make sure to still find time for you. Take a day to go to the wildlife conservatory or a hike, or spend time at a theme park!
From everyone here at Empowered By Vee, we wish you an exciting summer start!
